Christian Kids Explore US Geography

One semester- fall only

Description: This semester we’ll be touring the United States without ever leaving home! In this course, we’ll explore the 50 states and learn about what makes each of them unique and special. We’ll spend time maps and charts, and we’ll learn why they’re useful. Students will learn to identify the states on a map, and we’ll finish the semester with a state project that will allow them to be creative and dig in deep with the state of their choice!

 

Christian Kids Explore World Geography

Course Materials: We’re heading out on a trip around the world!  We will be discovering all about our beautiful planet, from our earth’s core to the far reaches of the atmosphere. We’ll also meet children from around the world and learn what they eat, what types of homes they live in, and what they wear.  We’ll explore different types of maps and learn how to read them. Throughout our journey, you’ll create keepsakes and souvenirs to help you remember all you’ve explored!

 

History A

Description: History isn’t a collection of dates to memorize and facts to learn about people who are now dead. History is full of fascinating stories about real people and extraordinary events. Through the textbook, activities, and online lectures and discussions, students will get a solid introduction to the Old Testament world, ancient empires, culminating in the life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Course Materials:  The Mystery of History Volume II (ISBN: 978-1892427069)

Description: This course takes an adventure through time as we explore some of the highlights of history. We will jump into what the first century church looked like and become acquainted with Charlemagne and Robin Hood (who actually existed). Through our textbook, activities, and online lectures and discussion, students will be guided through discovering times of the past from both the Bible and other historical timelines. Course Materials: The Mystery of History Volume III (ISBN: 978-1892427083)

Description: Have you always wanted to time travel? In this course, students will go back in time beginning with the Wars of the Roses in England. We’ll explore events that took place simultaneously around the globe – Machiavelli’s writing of The Prince, Raphael’s painting, and Martin Luther’s ninety-five theses, or  the life of William Shakespeare, Tokugawa’s influence of  Japan, and Sir Francis Bacon’s development of the scientific method. In this class, students will build a timeline and work on weekly projects that will ignite their enthusiasm and cement their understanding of the events that took place in the early church and the middle ages. Regular quizzes and tests will ensure that students will commit these events to memory. This middle school level course will cover the history of the world from 1455- 1707, including The Renaissance, Reformation and Growth of Nations. The course will be presented from a Biblical worldview, and will show the student the providential hand of God in world events during this period of time. Important people of the time period will also be studied as well as their contribution to our world.

Students will have the opportunity to complete several projects which bring historical events to life for the student, including a history timeline and a short genealogy project. Map work, wiki projects as well as some written papers will be completed. The goal of this class is to present world history in an interesting, engaging and un way that will draw the student in and cause world events to come “alive” for the student.

 

History D American History

Course Materials:

Description:  This course covers the history of our great country of America from its beginnings to current events. The class will take the student on an exploration of the people and events which built and shaped our country into the great nation it is today. Students will explore history in a fun and exciting way while also learning to think critically about events and how our past history affects us today. The class will include readings from All American History by Celeste W. Rakes as well as simple biographies of the people who helped to build and shape our country. Students will also complete a timeline of the events which occurred throughout American’s history. A short, optional, genealogy project will also invite students to examine their own family’s history or their adoptive family’s history in our nation. Students will complete several fun projects throughout the year which will be done as Wiki projects, posters, and discussions. The live class includes pictures, video clips, maps and discussions which draw the student into the history to make it a “living” subject.

 

NorthStar Geography

North Star Geography by Tyler Hogan

Description: When your family discusses current events, do you ever feel lost? Where in the world is Brunei? Why has there been unrest in Ukraine? In this course, students will explore the physical and cultural geography of God’s amazing world! By studying physical features such as landforms and climate, and cultural aspects of geography such as politics and religions, students will gain an appreciation of the world around them. Students will complete weekly assignments that include map work and answering questions about the geography of the areas studied. Projects and individual studies allow students to focus in-depth on areas of their interest. This course is a great foundation to prepare students for upper level learning.
