Chemistry is the study of the properties and interaction of matter at the atomic level. This course will cover Properties of Matter, The Periodic Table, Chemical Bonding, Nomenclature, The Mole, Chemical Equations, Stoichiometry, Gas Laws, Phase Changes, Acids and Bases, and pH. Labs during the course will focus on making observations, collecting data, drawing conclusions and writing lab reports. An emphasis will be placed on students understanding scientific inquiry, the scientific method, and the resulting science lab reports. While the course and instructor assume the student has some basic science knowledge and math skill, we will review all math and science concepts necessary to this course.
I wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed your class. This class was very interactive. My whole family enjoyed watching the experiments. You helped Karl grow the past 3 weeks. Karl is dyslexic and has problems with reading comprehension. He was very frustrated at the beginning of this course. The workload seemed overwhelming for him, the lab reports are a challenge, and learning new skills with the variety of tests was confusing to him. He was determined to master this on his own. Wow, what a change I have seem in him in the past 3 weeks! He went from “I can’t do that” to “can you read my lab report”. And he has a desire to do well. Thank you so much in assisting him with that growth.
Dear Mr. Leingang, Thank you so much for being such a spectacular teacher. I really enjoyed the fun labs. I also really appreciate the time and energy put into your classes. There was so much information in one class, and the slides helped me to visualize and remember the material. I hope to take some of your amazing classes in the future also. Coming out of your class, I feel like I know everything about chemistry, even though I know only a fraction about it! Thanks again for helping me learn lots this semester!
Mr Leingang: I want to thank you so much for this year. I know you remember when L started, this year presented a huge challenge to her. For the first time a subject did not just come “easy” or naturally. From the beginning you were willing to work with her and offer her the assistance she needed to conquer understanding the concepts. She finished with a 96 and a final of 98.5. Of course I am excited for her grade success but I am even more blessed by what the Lord has taught her this year in Chemistry. She has had the opportunity to practice and apply the truth that “she is not defined by a grade but by the Word of God.” She has learned the value of perseverance and the motivation disappointment can bring. She has witnessed the blessing of hard work and continuing to press on until she had grasped it all. These lessons far outweigh a grade in chemistry and they are lessons every teacher longs to instill in their students. So THANK YOU, for persevering through her questions, patiently answering them, and encouraging her hard work. Your class has facilitated much spiritual growth in her.
Mr. Leingang explains very difficult content in plain English. Excellent teacher.
I just wanted to thank you for such a thoughtful email. I wanted to also thank you for a wonderful class. Science is not something K feels is her strongest point, and yet she has learned so much from you. I am very grateful for that. She is working so hard to pop her B+ to an A, and I think she’s actually learning that she enjoys chemistry, despite her preconceived notions at the beginning of the class.
