Have you ever wondered what exactly happened in the Protestant Reformation? Or who exactly was William Shakespeare? And what did that war in England have to do with flowers anyway? This year we will start with the infamous War of the Roses and discuss all of the things that lead to the Renaissance (or rebirth) of art and science and explore the reasons for the Protestant Reformation within the Catholic church. This time period also includes some early American history, and we will study Christopher Columbus and the beginning of Jamestown. We will explore verses in God’s word and tie world events back to the providential God we serve. Each week the student will have reading assignments and quizzes. Students will complete several hands on and imaginative projects during this class, including art projects of Michelangelo and da Vinci, creating currency for Florence Italy, and even pretending to “tweet” Martin Luther’s 95 Theses. We will keep a map notebook of the countries and the new world explorers. There will also be a few small writing assignments, including writing and performing a character study of a famous person from this time period. Come join us and see how history can be fun!
