I began homeschooling when my first child (now a high school Junior) was in Kindergarten. I have 3 children, Paycen – 17 yr old boy, Owen – 14 yr old boy, and Landry – 10 yr old girl. I have been homeschooling for 12 years and teaching in a co-op setting since I began. I also have been teaching online for 4 years and doing summer camps for 6 years. I graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and practiced as a veterinarian full time until 2001.
My husband and I raise 4-H animals for shows. We raise market hogs, dairy cattle (primarily Jerseys), and Orpingtons (chickens). I love to ride horses with my children, who youth rodeo. I have a veterinarian friend who is a missionary in Haiti and I try to go there at least yearly to help her in her work there. I have 3 dogs, 5 cats, 3 horses, and many chickens, cattle, and pigs.

What people are saying about Sonya as a teacher:
Hi Dr. B! I just wanted to thank you for getting me my first “job” in a veterinary hospital. The Animal Hospital that I shadowed for the end of the year project contacted me and said that they would love to have me come any time I could and help out with the animals there! That was really exciting for me, and I wanted to thank you for giving me the end of the year assignment because that opened up a door for me that I didn’t think I could open yet. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your service and desire to teach this class. You have made Isabella’s first online class a joy and she LOVES you as her teacher!
Dear Mrs. Brouillette, I wanted to personally thank you from the bottom of my heart for deciding to teach this class! M was nervous about her first year with online classes, but her excitement for this subject helped ease her inhibitions. M absolutely adores and respects you and is very sad that the class had ended. She is bursting with anticipation for the equine camp in May! We are both very grateful for your genuine concern and availability to answer questions. Thank you for teaching N this year. She thoroughly enjoyed the class and we were very pleased with the class.
N would tell us about the class after each session. To be honest, we were not confident that the format for the class would be conducive to our expectations of N. We did not need to be concerned. She worked to prepare for each class, completed the assignments and prepared for the tests in a manner that is very comforting to me, particularly as she heads to college. You impacted N in a direct way through every interaction you had with her throughout the year. We appreciate you and your dedication to our daughter through the class. It was a very good year for us, and we are grateful. – Joshua S
